2025 Official Buriram MotoGP Test - Day 2 as it happened

Recap Thursday’s second and final day of the 2025 Official Buriram MotoGP test.

The final day of 2025 MotoGP pre-season testing began on Thursday morning at Buriram in Thailand.

New factory Ducati signing Marc Marquez was fastest by 0.465s over younger brother Alex on day one, when the Bologna factory confirmed it is mulling over sticking with the GP24 engine for the factory-spec GP25s this season.

Alex has been fastest on the GP24 at the two previous tests, in Barcelona and Sepang, and will be out to make it a clean sweep of winter P1s for Gresini today.

VR46’s Franco Morbidelli completed an all-Ducati top three on Wednesday ahead of Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi, KTM’s Pedro Acosta and the Hondas of Luca Marini and Johann Zarco.

Jack Miller was the top Yamaha in tenth as the Japanese factory made a humbler start to Buriram compared to its impressive showing at Sepang.

Absent this week are Aprilia’s reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Martin and VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio who were both injured at Sepang. Raul Fernandez, who also required surgery after a first day spill in Malaysia, is back for Trackhouse.

Testing takes place from 10am to 6pm, after which the next MotoGP track action will be opening practice for the Thai Grand Prix on February 28.

13 Feb 2025
08:38

Marc Marquez's 8th lap is his best of the run so far, a 1m 29.811s. That's 0.179s behind Bezzecchi's long run best, but let's see how long the 93 stays out.

08:37

Most riders are now on track, trying out long runs.

08:35

Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo is on his 12th lap and has set a 1m 30.029s, that's the third fastest lap (behind Bezzecchi and Marc Marquez) of the afternoon long runs.

08:35

Lap 5 of a long run and Marc Marquez joins Bezzecchi in the 1m 29s (+0.341s) but is Marc Marquez planning a Sprint (like Bezzecchi) or full Grand Prix simulation? Time will tell.

08:33

It looks like we'll see a full grand prix distance from Alex Marquez, who is holding mid 1m 31s pace and now on his 23rd lap.

08:32

Marc Marquez is starting his 5th lap of what we assume is a long run.

08:31

Jack Miller's 13th lap is faster again, a 1m 30.392s. The Yamaha, which has sometimes struggled with tyre wear in the past, seems to be using the rubber very well.

That 1m 30.392s basically matches race winner Bastianini's 13th and last lap of October's Sprint.

And Miller is still going.

08:29

Alex Marquez is now on lap 20, his last lap was a 1m 31.452s.

08:28

Interesting! Jack Miller sets his best of the long run so far, a 1m 30.439s, on his 12th lap!

08:26

Alex Marquez's 17th lap is a 1m 31.390s.Unfortunately, we can't compare that with last year's grand prix because it was soaking wet.

08:25

Jack Miller meanwhile is on the 11th lap of his long run, best so far a 1m 30.465s on lap 8.

08:24

We have the answer: Bezzecchi pits. That's his long run over. 15 laps, the best of which was the 1m 29.632s on lap 3.

But Alex Marquez is on lap 17 and still going, that explains why his pace was not as fast as Bezzecchi's, the Gresini rider is going for a longer distance than the Aprilia.

08:23

Bezzecchi's 14th lap is a 1m 30.283s, he's holding the pace extremely well.

Alex Marquez's was a 1m 30.957s.

If they keep going they are presumably aiming for something close to a full 26-lap grand prix simulation, which makes Bezzecchi's pace look even better.

08:20

A full Sprint simulation is 13 laps.

Alex Marquez's 13th lap is a 1m 30.985s, Marco Bezzecchi's a 1m 30.386s.

Race winner Enea Bastianini's last lap of the Sprint was a 1m 1m 30.362s in October.

08:18

So Alex Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi are both on their 11th lap of a race sim, the Gresini rider about 1 sector ahead of the Aprilia on the track.

Alex Marquez is around the high 1m 30s/low 31s, Bezzecchi is holding mid 1m 30s pace.

08:17

Bezzecchi is now on lap 10 and is lapping in the mid 1m 30s. That's a very decent pace. Bastianini set a 1m 30.3s in the Sprint last year after 10 laps.

Alex Marquez has dropped into the 1m 31s while Bagnaia looks to have pitted after 8 laps.

08:12

Marco Bezzecchi is on his 8th lap so it looks very much like at least a Sprint simulation.

And it's fast.

Bez set a 1m 29.632s earlier in the run, matching Enea Bastianini's best lap on his way to victory in the Sprint race for Ducati last October...

Alex Marquez is also on lap 8 of a long run (best so far a 1m 30.203s).

Francesco Bagnaia is on his 7th lap in a row, so he's another doing a race sim. But his best of the run so far is only a 1m 30.417s, 0.785s behind Bezzecchi.

08:05

Francesco Bagnaia and Joan Mir join the afternoon action.

08:04

If any of them are doing a race simulation, we'll know because they'll stay out more than the usual 5-6 laps.

08:01

Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi, Gresini's Alex Marquez and home star Somkiat Chantra (LCR) take to the track.

07:58

Dorna's Jack Appleyard reports that Ducati has officially decided to stick with the main GP24 parts at the factory team:

"CONFIRMED: Tardozzi has just told me 2024 engine, 2024 chassis and “real possibility” they choose the 2024 aero package. Ducati are standing still. Music to the ears of their rivals"

07:50

Jack Miller heads out for Pramac Yamaha...

07:46

2:45pm and all is quiet on track. Are riders waiting for 3pm to do a race simulation? It'd make sense, 3pm is the start time for the Sprint (13 laps) and Grand Prix (26 laps) at Buriram in a few weeks.

07:20

Marco Bezzecchi lights up the rear tyre on his Aprilia during the lunchtime practice starts on day 2:
